Forfeiture: MacEwan Volleyball - Mike Olsen

( Commissioner's Rulings )

2005-06 Season

November 8, 2005

MacEwan men’s volleyball forfeited 1 match against KC and 1 match against GPRC in which their margins of victory are the greatest.  MacEwan had played a total of 4 matches vs. KC and GPRC.  Mike Olsen, due to registering late this semester was technically ineligible to participate in these matches, although meeting all substantive eligibility requirements.  To forfeit all of the matches would give no credit for MacEwan’s self reporting (other than avoiding a fine) and would not differentiate between this situation and the use of a substantively ineligible player.

Appeals Ruling:
GPRC challenged the ruling of the Commissioner in regards to MacEwan playing an ineligible player.  MacEwan men’s volleyball will forfeit every game that the ineligible player’s name appears on the game sheet.  The original ruling took the latitude to considerthe difference between administrative ineligibility and sub substantive ineligibility but this differentiation does not exist in the ACAC Operating Code.
