Equipment Violation: MacEwan Men's Hockey

Further to the self-reporting by MacEwan January 30 of an Operating Code violation, namely, the provision of skates, MacEwan was found to be in contravention of the rules of the Conference as per OC, Art. I, Sec. 7 , 1.1. 3. By the ruling of the Commissioner, the following sanctions were imposed:

  • MacEwan was ordered to pay a fine of $2,000, $500 per occurrence
  • MacEwan coach Bryan Keller was suspended for the remainder of the season including play-offs
  • MacEwan AD Mark Mahl shall be subject to sanctions to be determined at a later date at such time as he may return to the ACAC
  • MacEwan was required to review its financial records dating from 2005 to the present to ascertain if other improprieties were present
  • MacEwan was required to make available to the Commissioner any portions of the external auditor's report in relation to the Mark Mahl investigation that may represent possible violations of the Operating Code

In addition, Commissioner Hendsbee recommended to the Conference Executive committee that an investigation be launched pursuant to allegations the practice of providing skates to student-athletes is widespread.
