RE:  Resolution of Jan. 29 Men's Hockey Game Cancellation

As per OC. Art. III, Sec. 13, 4, the Executive Committee convened via conference call this morning to determine all issues associated with the re-scheduling of this game.  Owing to the potential impact of the game on the standings, it was evident the game should be replayed.

Executive received and reviewed the Event Incident Report form submitted by Portage College and heard from each respective athletic director, Karla Karch of MRU & and Lorne Moen of Portage.  As per the Event Incident Report, the colleges plan to resume the game Tuesday, February 8 from the spot the game was cancelled, play only the last two periods of the game, and to meet in a neutral site (e.g. NAIT, Edmonton) to reduce somewhat the costs and travel borne by MRU.  The parties could not, however, agree on who would bear the costs of ice rental.

In camera, Executive reviewed the appropriate sections of the Operating Code (OC) and determined that Art. III, Sec. 13, 3.6 applied in the present case insofar as the loss of power in the Lac La Biche area was weather-related.  Executive then discussed the application of the OC article in this case.

Executive determined one of two scenarios would apply as follows:

1) In the event the teams involved agree to follow the OC, Art. III, Sec. 13, 3.6 as applied, and re-schedule the game to be played Feb. 8 in Lac La Biche, all costs involved in re-scheduling the event shall be borne by those incurring the costs, with on ice officials costs being assumed by the Conference.  This would be the normal course of events as per the Operating Code.

2) If however, the game shall be scheduled to be played at a neutral site, as agreed to by MRU and PC in the present case (and for which the Executive commends Portage),
travel costs shall be borne by each institution but all other costs (e.g. ice rental, minor officials) shall be split evenly by the two institutions.  Owing to the cancellation being weather-related, the Conference shall assume the costs of the on ice officials.

The Executive respectfully requests that the parties involved confirm through the ACAC Office by noon, Friday, Feb. 4, which option they intend to pursue and by that time, to confirm through the ACAC Office, the date, time and venue for the replay.  The ACAC Office shall then arrange for the provision of on ice officials.

In the event the second option is pursued, as expected, the host institution, Portage College, shall ensure that all costs associated with ice rental and the provision of minor officials are forwarded to the ACAC Office for settlement.  The ACAC Office shall then bill back to MRU and PC an equal share of these expenses.

Thank you.
Sincerely,

Robert D. Day, Ph.D.
General Manager
