CASE: Flagrant Foul Issued in an Exhibition Game

( Commissioner's Rulings )

June, 2005 - Commissioner's Casebook

(O.C. Art I, Sec 14, 10.1, 10.2.1, 11.1)
A player was issued a flagrant foul in a basketball game that wasn’t an “official game” as commented by the coach and AD.  There were questions regarding the game as not an ‘official game’ and any fouls issued during the contest should not be counted by the ACAC.  The score sheet did not indicate the flagrant fouls, although a flagrant foul was called.  Lastly, there was a question regarding the legitimacy of the flagrant foul call.

Ruling:

The commissioner is satisfied the exhibition contest in question is one to which the ACAC Operating Code applies, that a flagrant foul was issued to a player during the contest and that it is not within his power to second guess the call of the official given that the correct player was identified.  As a result, the player is suspended for one game.
