CASE: Concurrently Coaching and Playing

( Commissioner's Rulings )

June, 2006 - Commissioner's Casebook

(O.C. Art I, Sec 6, 1, 1.1)
A male coach who was coaching a women’s volleyball team wanted to become a student athlete and play for the men’s volleyball team during the next semester while still continuing to coach the women’s team.

RULING:

The issue was ruled to be in violation of the ACAC Operating Code since the only acceptable form of aid which can be given to an athlete can be financial and shall not exceed established tuition. As the coach he would be paid a stipend to coach the women’s team which would exceed the financial aid limitations. He would contravene this regulation.
