CASE: Participation at another Institution in the Same Season

( Commissioner's Rulings )

June, 2005 - Commissioner's Casebook

(O.C. Art I, Sec 5, 1.5.2, 1.5.3, 1.5.4, 1.5.5)
An athlete transferred in the second semester to an ACAC college from a college in another province that was not a member of the CCAA. She competed for the school’s volleyball team in exhibition and league play. A UTF was provided to the ACAC office but it did not fully confirm academic eligibility. The player competed in 2 games for the ACAC college before this was fully confirmed.

RULING:

The player was not technically eligible for the matches because the UTF was not complete. It was submitted after the matches were played. There was a further violation of the O.C. because the athlete’s name had appeared on a league game sheet in the same sport at the institution she transferred from. As a result of these violations the games were forfeit to the other team. The athlete would be eligible to participate in the next season. The Commissioner felt no further sanctions should be applied to the college, athletic director, coach and athlete for their breach of the O.C. The Conference Council did not concur.
