CASE: Use of an Academically Ineligible Player

A student-athlete competing in hockey was placed on academic suspension and had been removed from the ACAC eligibility list. However, the hockey coach continued to use this player for two subsequent games. The student scored 2 goals and 1 assist, winning the first game 7-6. He also scored 1 goal and 2 assists in the second game against the same team winning 8-2.

RULING: 

It was ruled that the 2 wins recorded by the team using the ineligible player be withdrawn and awarded to the opposing team. Scores for both games were recorded as 3-0 victories for the opposing team. All of the goals and assists recorded by members of the offending team were erased from the ACAC statistical standings however, goals and assists recorded by players from the opposing team stood. The offending hockey team was also assessed a monetary penalty of $200 for the use of an academically ineligible player.
