2008-09 SeasonOctober 23, 2008. During the second period of a game against MRC on October 18, 2008, MacEwan’s Russell Purdy was assessed a major and game misconduct for kneeing. The Referee felt that Mr. Purdy was attempting a big, open ice hit by lining up the MRC player. However, as he approached the MRC player, his timing was off. Rather than miss the hit, Mr. Purdy stuck out his knee, impacting the knee of his opponent. His MRC opponent was injured on the play and will be out for approximately 6 weeks. Commissioner B. Hendsbee ruled that although there was no intent to injure on the part of Mr. Purdy his actions cannot be condoned, particularly where they cause injury to an opponent, therefore he shall be suspended for two games pursuant to Art I Sec 13 Rule 8.4.5.. Mr. Purdy’s two game suspension shall be served as follows:
