(
Commissioner's Rulings
) |
2008-09 SeasonOn October 24, 2008 men’s hockey player Dan Waschuk was assessed a Gross Misconduct. According to the Referee, at the end of the second period Mr. Waschuk skated by and verbally harassed him. The result was a minor penalty. Mr. Waschuk then continued his barrage using foul language towards the referee. He then refused to leave the ice, stating that he hoped to see the Referee in the parking lot. He was then assessed a Gross Misconduct. It is the opinion of Commissioner B. Hendsbee that Mr. Waschuk’s actions significantly crossed the line and cannot be condoned. The threats made towards the Referee are of particular concern. In previous rulings the; importance of treating ACAC officials with respect has been stressed. As a result of the severity of Mr. Waschuk’s actions, Commissioner B. Hendsbee does not feel that the default provisions of a three game suspension as stated in Art. 1, Sec. 14, Rule 8.3.1 of the OC are appropriate under the circumstances and has suspended Mr. Waschuk for the following four games:
