2008-09 SeasonOn November 15, 2008, MRC’s M. Ouellette was assessed a major and a game misconduct for body checking an opponent from RDC. As a result of the incident the RDC player has been diagnosed with a severe concussion and will not play until at least Christmas. The major and game misconduct received by Ms. Ouellette took place with less that 10 minutes remaining in the third period. Therefore, pursuant to Art. I Sec. 13 Rule 1.1.3 of the ACAC OC, Ms. Ouellette is automatically suspended for one game. Based on the injuries to the RDC player, Art. I Sec. 14, Rule 8.4.5 of the ACAC OC require that an investigation be conducted. After reviewing submissions from the officials, from both schools and after viewing the video footage of the incident, Commissioner B. Hendsbee has concluded that it was clearly Ms. Ouellette’s intent to body check the RDC player. Given that there is no body checking allowed in the women’s game, the RDC player was likely not expecting to be struck by Ms. Ouellette, thus increasing her vulnerability. Commissioner B. Hendsbee feels that an additional one game suspension is warranted under the circumstances. Ms. Ouellette is hereby suspended for a total of two games, to be served as follows: November 21 vs. MacEwan and November 22 vs. MacEwan. (2008-09, Hendsbee) |
