2017-18 SeasonSeptember 15, 2017Facts: Grande Prairie Regional College contacted the commissioner’s office and has asked that the office looks into the eligibility status of student athlete Kyle Reynolds. According to Conf Link it indicates that Mr. Reynolds has consumed all 5 years of eligibility, however according to GPRC records the student athlete has only consumed 4 . GPRC is indicating that the 2006 – 07 season Mr. Reynolds did not compete as a student athlete. GPRC athletics department submitted a letter indicating that Mr. Reynolds was not a student athlete in their department during the 2006 – 07 season. GPRC Director of Student Experience also forwarded a letter indicating that Kyle Reynolds was not a registered student at GPRC in the 2006 – 07 academic year. The ACAC office also forwarded copies of eligibility sheets for GPRC in the sports of curling and cross country running for the 2006 – 07 season. Mr. Reynolds name did not appear on either eligibility form. Ruling: Article 1 Section 5 Rule 1.4.4.2.2 states : When the error is detected after the completion of the relevant season and/or semester, the offending institution must submit a written request with all relevant details through the ACAC office to correct the record, as well as provide irrefutable evidence to support the request, and submit a $500 fee to the ACAC office. The Commissioner will review the submission and determine whether the request will be granted. If approved, the institution must submit corrected game sheet(s) to the ACAC office within one week. With the documentation that was supplied from GPRC and the ACAC office it is evident that Mr. Reynolds did not compete for GPRC in the 2006–07 season and therefore did not consume eligibility that year. In conclusion it is clear that Mr. Reynolds did not consume eligibility in the 2006–07 season and the ACAC will need to correct his status on ConfLink. Additionally, with the documentation that was received it is apparent that Grande Prairie did not commit an administrative error and the error was not due to something inside of their control. Therefore the $500.00 fee is to be refunded to Grande Prairie Regional College. Sincerely, |
