2016-17 SeasonSeptember 22, 2016On September 18, 2016 NAIT Men’s Soccer player E. Yoannes (#6) was ejected for receiving his second yellow card of the game, resulting in an automatic one (1) game suspension pursuant to the ACAC Operating Code, which is to be served on September 23, 2016 vs. TKU. In the course of leaving the field of play, the referee indicates that Mr. Yoannes got into a confrontation with the opposing coach from Keyano College, with Mr. Yoannes telling the coach to “Go Fuck Yourself.” Mr. Yoannes then proceeded to leave the field of play. As Mr. Yoannes had already been shown the red card, he was not technically red carded for this offence. However, his actions cannot go unaddressed as they clearly violate the standards of the Conference. In addressing supplemental discipline, I have considered the following Operating Code sections: Article I Section 13 Rule 9: 9.5.2. Two Match Suspension: Red card offences resulting in an immediate match ejection plus a two (2) game suspension: 9.5.2.3. Foul or abusive language, or harassing to anyone (Amended February, 2012) Article I Section 3 Rule 4: Guidelines for Student‐Athletes 4.1. Student‐athletes are expected to conform to a higher standard of behaviour by exhibiting the following qualities while involved in competitive situations. 4.1.1. Integrity ‐ respect the rights of other athletes, coaches and the public. 4.1.2. Competence ‐ strive to perform to the best of your abilities. 4.1.3. Respect for the Rules ‐ play fair and display respect for your sport. 4.1.4. Respect for Officials ‐ exhibit respect for referees’ and officials’ judgements and decisions. Based on the above, Mr. Yoannes is hereby suspended for an additional two (2) games, to be served on September 24, 2016 vs. GPRC and on October 1, 2016 vs. UAA. Sincerely, Bill Hendsbee |
