1994-95 Season
(O.C. Art I, Sec 14, 1.2)
During a volleyball match in regular season play, a coach was not allowed to make his final substitution. The scorekeeper was not aware of the most recent interpretation of the ACAC O.C. relative to substitutions and the umpire did not recognize the scorekeeper’s mistake at the time. The referee was in error since he/she had the authority to overrule the decisions of other officials if he/she notices they are mistaken. The coach did not follow proper procedures when he protested the match.
RULING:
The results that were recorded stood for the following reasons:
- The mistake was an honest human error and not committed with any intent
- The financial implications to the other college of replaying the match were too great, especially since they had no control over the situation.
- The current league schedule did not permit enough time before the play-offs to reschedule another match.
- The play-offs at that time included 8 teams of which the protesting team had already qualified.
