CASE: 3rd Technical Foul to Player in the Same Game |
(
Commissioner's Rulings
) |
2003-04 Season (O.C. Art I, Sec 14, 9) Unfortunately, the officials have misapplied a rule. A player cannot receive three direct technical fouls in one game. After the second technical foul, the player should have been ejected. At this point, the player is considered to be a “bench personnel” or more specifically a “team follower”, and is the responsibility of the head coach. Any technical fouls that occur as a result of the ejected player’s actions are charged to the coach as a bench direct technical foul. Note: A team (coach) can receive up to three bench direct technical fouls before the coach is ejected. This should not be confused with the direct technical foul rule mentioned earlier, as no individual (player/coach) can receive more than two direct technical fouls in one game. |
