2004-05 Season
(O.C. Art I, Sec 14, 10.2)
A player was singled out by a referee. The referee had told the captain that the next time his team mate makes contact with an opposing player that he would be assessed a technical foul. Before the captain could relay the message to the player, play had resumed. A collision occurred and a technical foul was called on the player with a response from the referee stating, ‘he was warned’. The coach iterates that this incidental collision was not grounds for a technical foul, but a regular foul, and that the captain did not have sufficient time to relay the warning onto the player. The player had a history of technical fouls, and with the opposing coach telling the referees that he is a ‘dirty player’, and this should not predetermine the calls of the referees. This would be the player’s fourth accumulated technical fouls.
RULING:
A committee has ruled that this player would be suspended for two games, with the second game being the first game of the playoffs. This ruling is consistent with the accumulation of four direct technical fouls. There wasn’t sufficient evidence to warrant an increase or decrease to this amount.
