June, 1997 - Commissioner's Casebook
(O.C. Art I, Sec 14, 1.1, 9.1)
An ACAC college was participating in an exhibition match in another province during the ACAC season. An incident in the match resulted in 9 members of the college, including an assistant coach and the athletic therapist, leaving the bench for a confrontation. It was decided by the officials that all individuals who left the bench were to be ejected from the game. This would result in one-game suspensions for all the offending team members. If these suspensions occurred simultaneously at the next game the college would not be able to play the game because they wouldn’t have enough players and hence, the suspension would in fact not be served. The coach appealed to the Commissioner to allow the college to serve the suspensions over two games so the games could be played with sufficient players.
RULING:
The college was permitted to serve the suspensions over two games.
