June, 2006 - Commissioner's Casebook A player at an ACAC college was inadvertently left off an eligibility sheet. The original handwritten copy listed the player on the roster but somehow in the final draft, his name was left off and not submitted to the ACAC office. The athlete was a second year player who had played the majority of exhibition and pre-season tournaments already that year. RULING: The college was instructed to submit the eligibility form into the ACAC office as soon as possible and was fined $100 (Article II- Section 3, Ruling 1.6) for submitting late eligibility certificate. The game results that the athlete played in stood since the mistake was not committed intentionally and the college tried to rectify the error as soon as it was noticed. SEE ALSO: The case above was used as a precedent in 1999-00 (Meadus) in a similar situation but the player had played in 13 league games. The game results stood and the college was fined $300. |
