June, 1996 - Commissioner's Casebook
(O.C. Art I, Sec 5, 1.0, 1.3.3)
A student applied to reinstate a year of eligibility on the basis he suffered a season ending injury and participated in no more than 30% of league play in that season. The college he participated for at that time appealed to the Commissioner that the player in fact did not receive a season ending injury as he competed in exhibition play after injury. The college also stated that he did not participate in a league game in the second semester and quit shortly after the commencement of the second half of the season.
RULING:
The player did not participate in more than 30% of league play and thus was reinstated his year of eligibility. Ruling 1.0 encourages inclusivity of student participation and the player provided the appropriate medical documentation to support his case of a season ending injury.
