June, 2006 - Commissioner's Casebook
(O.C. Art 1, Sec 3.1.3.1.1; Art 3, Sec 1, 2.2.2.1, 2.3.1.1, 2.3.2, 2.3.2.6)
A coach of a men’s soccer team had criticized the call of an official that disallowed a late goal that would have tied the game.
Ruling:
The coach received a written reprimand for his comments. The ruling will serve as the reprimand on the understanding that it will be distributed not only to the college (and thereby to the coach) but also to all member institutions. The college was also fined an amount of $200.00 as this is the second time that this has occurred at the same institution and same sport. A member institution may be held in violation of the rules of the Conference if a representative of the institution is found to have violated the Operating Code. The fine was kept relatively low as this may be the first time a school has been held responsible for the actions of one of its coaches.
