June, 2006 - Commissioner's Casebook
(O.C. Art 1, Sec 3, 4.1, 4.1.1, 4.1.3, 4.2.2)
A student athlete was ejected from a game and on his way to the dressing room he threw garbage cans and tables causing some destruction of property. He also kicked the doors to the dressing room and directed profanities at members of the public who came to see what the noise was all about. Staff of the facility tried to get him to calm down and the athlete swore at them and pushed them. The staff called the police who escorted him out of the building.
RULING:
The athlete was suspended for the remainder of the season, the following preseason and the first 4 league games of the following season. He was placed on probation for the following season and if he was to be involved in a similar incident he would be similarly suspended for the remainder of the season. He was also required to write letters of apology to the manager of the facility and the ACAC President for his conduct.
The decision was appealed and denied.
