June, 2006 - Commissioner's Casebook
(O.C. Art I, Sec 3, 4.1)
A physical and emotional game occurred between 2 ACAC schools during regular league play at the beginning of February. No penalties were assessed even though one player involved directed racial comments and actions towards an opposing player during the course of the game.
RULING:
The ACAC Commissioner consulted with the Athletic Directors in the Conference and came to the unanimous conclusion that racial prejudice in any form would not be tolerated in the ACAC. Technically the rules of basketball were not broken; however, an unwritten code of conduct of ethics was broken. Racial prejudice, harassment and humiliation are not accepted in our society. The offending player was suspended for the remaining ACAC league play; a total of 3 games.
