(O.C. Art I, Sec 3, 3.1.3, 3.1.3.5, 3.1.7)
An assistant coach during a CCAA national championship game (in March, 1997) was upset at the actions of the officials. He was involved in a verbal and physical confrontation with the game officials, which culminated in the coach confronting the officials within the officials’ change room.
RULING:
The lack of respect exhibited towards the officials was inexcusable and not condoned by the ACAC. A coach should assume a leadership role and conduct him/herself as a positive role model. The assistant coach was suspended from ACAC athletics at all Conference member institutions until December 31, 1997. The suspension included participation in team practices, meetings, recruiting or any other activities. After the suspension period, he was placed on probation until May 1, 1998. If he was to receive a second technical foul during the probationary term he would be immediately suspended for the remainder of the 1997/98 season.
